How come my pants set off the metal detectors?

My trousers were caused when the metal detector when I was with my dad at the hospital and I had taken all my stuff out of my pockets. Also [BDU] kind of Mililtary. I do not have a pants zipper (keys) and it was carrying a belt but the lady said so well in the sense whe variable from the belt and still has sonato.
